Learning Targets
Unit 1 1. Describe how the U.S. changed and created greater economic and social separation during the Second Industrial Revolution of the late 19th century. 1.1 - Define "industry" and identify the resources that powered the 2nd Industrial Revolution. 1.2 - Identify the people and inventions that helped America become an industrial power. 1.3 - Describe how demographics of major cities changed in the late 19th century. 1.4 - Describe what life was like for immigrants in major cities. 1.5 - Describe the experience of rural people during the 2nd Industrial Revolution. 2. Identify how the role of the government changed during the Progressive Era and identify what people/groups helped initiate these changes. 2.1 Describe the rise of organized labor in the US and the response of the government. 2.2 Describe significant problems created by America's industrial and urban transformation. 2.3 Explain the major changes and limitations of Progressive reform. 2.4 Describe the key Progressives responsible for change. 2.5 Compare and contrast the policies of the presidents of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. Unit 2 3. Explain how the United States’ international involvement shifted from the late 19th to the early 20th century and how this relates to the U.S. involvement in World War I. 4. Analyze how WWI and its conclusion impacted political, social, and economic stability in the U.S. and internationally. Unit 3 5. Compare how the government responded to the Roaring 20’s and the Great Depression. 6. Evaluate how the U.S. responded to the Great Depression and how international events were connected to the downturn of the global economy. |
Writing Targets
1. Create a clear claim/thesis and create an outline that shows relationships between claim(s), reasons, and evidence. 2. Meet WT1 and use primary and secondary sources to write an argumentative essay supported by evidence. 3. Analyze primary and secondary sources to develop a claim/thesis statement and identify counterclaims. 4. Meet WT3 and write an argumentative essay that maintains an objective/formal tone and addresses counterclaims. Use at least 1 source in the body of your essay. 5. Evaluate primary and secondary sources to determine an author’s opinion and develop counterclaims using evidence. 6. Meet WT 4-5 and write an argumentative essay addressing another author’s claim. |
